Staycation Inspo: Seaside Edition

When the warm weather arrives, there’s nothing quite as British as a trip to the seaside, is there? And while international travel remains fraught with pandemic-related red tape this summer, there’s never been a better time to plan a “staycation”. We’re taking this as a golden opportunity to enjoy some nostalgic fun at Britain’s finest seaside towns this summer.

Jellied eels anyone?

There are as many clichés about the British seaside as there are seagulls strutting the promenades. What does a classic day at the seaside mean to you? For us, it’s anything from ritzy piers to rock-pooling, picnics on the beach, and ice cream melting almost as fast as you can eat it.

If you’re heading to the seaside with the kids, buckets and spades are a must. Don’t forget to bring some sun cream, a sunhat and plenty of water. And you’ll need something to sit on, such as our oatmeal linen crinkle throw.

Swimsuits and towels go into the beach bag too - a swim is obligatory (although we won’t tell if you give it a miss!). There’s no getting around that gasp-inducing moment as you plunge your sun-kissed skin into the sea.

If you’re feeling active, play some games or go beach combing: find some pretty sea glass, collect some shells or smooth pebbles. Alternatively, settle down to read the papers or a good book. Take a break from relaxing on the beach with a stroll along the promenade in search of an ice cream or a refreshing drink at a picturesque pub.

After a long day at the seaside, there’s nothing better than tucking into a steaming parcel of fish and chips as the sun goes down. Watch out for those seagulls though – they’ve got their beady eyes on the chips!

As the evening turns chilly, wrap up warm and head home – or to a cosy B&B – all salty, sandy and filled with the joys of a day at the seaside.
