Being able to shop online undoubtedly saves us time and makes life a little easier (especially during a pandemic) but at Piglet we often find ourselves reflecting on what we have lost, stuck behind our screens. Nothing can quite compare with the village shop experience, chatting with the shopkeeper and knowing where your hard earned money is going. And so we are taking this opportunity to introduce part of our team more personally!
We are so proud of our Sussex fulfillment team who pick and pack our UK orders. Since the start of the lockdown, as we all look for ways to feel more comfortable in our homes, we have been selling a lot more bedding and sleepwear than we used to. While this has really strengthened our business it has put a lot of pressure on Dana, Nicola, Mary, Jane, Lisa, Laura and Lorna at our lovely little barn on the Knepp Estate which serves as our fulfillment center. Despite at first working irregular hours in solo shifts they powered through and have done an incredible job keeping up with demand.
The Knepp Estate where we are based is a dreamy setting for any business. This 3,500 acre estate West Sussex is dedicated to an ambitious rewilding project which uses grazing animals as the drivers of habitat creation. Between shifts we can spot rare species like turtle doves, nightingales and peregrine falcons cruising around the barn.
I’m currently based in Illinois, USA from where we are growing our North American business. It has been a thrilling ride to be back growing another part of the business from the ground up but seeing these photos of our Sussex team who are so central to Piglet’s success, I must admit I felt more than a pang of homesickness. I hope soon the world will be a little healthier and I will be able to be back in our barn with these ladies enjoying a cup of tea.
